A New Community Orchard at Haydon's Rd Station
As this was public land, the Adopt a Green Space project helped out by checking with Merton Council that it was ok. So this is a wonderful example of someone taking the initiative to make better use of public land and getting support to do so.
The trees are for the benefit of the community and it's hoped that others in the neighbourhood (especially children) will take an interest, and pick and share the fruit in the summer. In the first year or two, the trees need a bit of looking after. People living nearby are being asked to look out for the trees and (if they are interested) water them when it gets too dry. If just a few people take a few minutes to do this, then the fruit trees can be enjoyed by the whole community for many years to come.

* the fruit trees planted are: a plum, a greenguage, 2 cherries (1 is Morello, which is bitter but delicious when cooked) and 2 apple trees (Braeburn and Russet)
