  • Garden plants - JP’s stall will have a range of high quality local plants for sale

Children’s Area - free for children of all ages
The Children’s Area is a popular and creative part of Fruit Day allowing children and families to take part in a range of free and entertaining activities. This year we are thrilled to welcome Tinka the puppeteer who will perform at Fruit Day for the first time.
Tinka the puppeteer
Tinka will be doing a free storytelling performance and workshop for 2 - 5 year olds. The performance is called The Apple and is told using characters made from clay and natural materials. In the workshop that follows, the children will make their own characters which will then have a role in an improvised storytelling.

When does the performance start?

⏰ The session will begin at 12.15 and last approximately 1 hour. Children need to be accompanied by an adult.

How do I book a place?

🎟️ Places are limited so booking is advisable. You can do this on the day only from 11.00 - just come to the Children’s Area.
 Apple games
Our popular apple games will of course be out again this year and we welcome children and their adults to come and play together.

Items for sale in the children’s area can be paid for with a card but cash is always welcome.

Fruit picking continuesAfter the rainy start to August we are happy to report that fruit picking is well underway with the Abundance team picking in local gardens across the borough. The focus for August will undoubtedly be apples and pears

During July our volunteers have been out picking 8kg of damsons at the Durnsford Recreation Ground. Damsons look similar to plums and usually have a sour flavour if eaten raw, however they are wonderful cooked into jam!
We have also picked close to 30 kgs of cherry plums from local gardens. First discovered in Iran, cherry plums are now naturalised in many parts of the world including of course the British Isles. Packed with nutrients, our local cherry plums have been turned into truly delicious jam which will be sold on Fruit Day.

Fruit in the hedgerow
Blackberries have been in season for a few weeks and who can resist reaching into the brambles for a juicy treat! If you haven't yet had the chance, now is a great time to hunt for blackberries growing in your local park.

Top tip from our volunteers - a walking stick or clothes hanger is a handy part of the kit for dodging the thorns and hooking those hard to reach ripe blackberries!

Homemade cakes needed on Fruit Day
If you would like to donate a homemade cake, please bring it along on the day together with a list of the ingredients that you have used.

📧 For further information or questions about donating cakes please contact Rosie at rod_taylor_@hotmail.co.uk
