Abundance Wimbledon Newsletter
June 2024
WELCOME TO OUR JUNE 2024 NEWSLETTER
Welcome to our first newsletter of the summer! June marks the start of summer and with it all of our hopes for sunny, fruit-friendly weather!
FRUIT DAY 2024
Preparations for our annual Fruit Day are now underway and regular visitors will be delighted to hear that the wonderful International Ukelele Orchestra will once again be entertaining us. Lead by Derek Lomas the Orchestra will provide two up-beat sets.
Another very good reason to put Fruit Day firmly in your diary - Saturday 14 September 11 - 2.30pm at St Mark's Church Hall & Grounds SW19 7ND
JAM-MAKING MASTERCLASS
The jam-making masterclass in mid-May was a great success. The hands-on tuition (led, as always, by Sue Lovell-Greene) gave enthusiasts a thorough understanding of the principles and practices that underpin successful jam and jelly making.
In addition to being highly informative, the master class was an opportunity to meet other people in the community who are keen on making the best use of the fruit available in our neighbourhood.
Everyone who attended the class will join the team that makes the delicious home-made preserves that are so popular on Fruit Day.
Many thanks to Sue for running the class
DO YOU HAVE EXCESS FRUIT IN YOUR GARDEN?
Our friendly team pick fruit right across the borough of Merton and your fruit will either be donated to a local charity or turned into delicious produce for our Annual Fruit Day (where again, proceeds go straight back to community charities).
If you would like to donate fruit from trees in your garden or know a park that is becoming overgrown with gorgeous fruit, we would love to hear from you.
VOLUNTEERING IN 2024
Abundance Wimbledon is made up entirely of friendly, enthusiastic volunteers. If you are interested in taking part we would love to hear from you.
Here are some of the ways you could help:
OUR NEXT NEWSLETTER
We will be in touch in July when the fruit picking season gets under way.
In the mean time, feel free to send any Abundance news and photos to our media editor Jackie.
Best wishes and sincere thanks from us all
Juliet and the team at Abundance Wimbledon.
p.s. You can find all our past newsletter issues here, and if you're not already subscribed, you can subscribe here. You can also find us on social media: Instagram, X (Twitter), and Facebook.
