WELCOME TO OUR JULY 2024 NEWSLETTER
We are now well into July, can you believe it?  The heady mix of rain and sun is doing wonders for all the fruit that is now beginning to ripen in and around Wimbledon!

FRUIT DAY 2024
Abundance Wimbledon is delighted to confirm the fourteenth annual Fruit Day will be held on Saturday 14 September 2024, 11am - 2.30pm at St Mark's Church Hall & Grounds, St Mark's Place, Wimbledon, SW19 7ND.

Fruit Day is a fantastic community event suitable for everyone. Our regular newsletter will guide you through the season, so look out for opportunities, updates, and events in the lead-up to the big day.

FRUIT PICKERS ALWAYS NEEDED
Abundance Wimbledon is mobilising to get the all-important fruit picks underway. We have a wonderful crew of volunteers, but our doors are always open for more! Our picks take place across the following areas:

Morden and Mitcham (Coordinated by Liz)
Motspur Park (Coordinated by Gilli)
Raynes Park (Coordinated by Dulcie)
Wimbledon (Coordinators - Ruth and Rosie)

Should you or any of your friends or family be interested in helping with our picks, or transporting the fruit to local charities, please do get in touch. You can do as much or as little to suit your timetable. Simply register your interest and the relevant Area Coordinator will get in touch with upcoming picking sessions.

Get in touch with Liz to find out more.

DO YOU HAVE MORE FRUIT THAN YOU NEED IN YOUR GARDEN?
We are here to help! Our team of enthusiastic fruit pickers will be more than happy to come to you and pick that hard to reach fruit, as well as find a home for any unwanted produce that is collected.  Get in touch with Liz by clicking the button below and letting us know the following information:
  • type of fruit
  • location of fruit
  • approximately how much fruit needs to be picked
  • times that pickers can attend
  • contact details (phone number)
Liz will connect you with your local area coordinator, who will arrange for pickers to attend at a time that is convenient for you.

Can't wait to hear from you!

WOULD YOU LIKE TO HELP AT A STALL ON FRUIT DAY?

We always need help on our stalls on fruit day - whether that's helping sell our jams, chutneys and cakes or keeping the volunteers topped up with tea and coffee - every little helps! Do get in touch if you'd like to lend a hand.

Fruit Day is the culmination of Abundance Wimbledon's efforts each year to reduce food waste, help local charities and engage the local community.

The Mayor of Merton, Slawek Szczepanski, will be opening the day. It is a chance to bring people together for some light hearted fun, whilst raising money for local charities through the sale of many homemade delights made from the unwanted fruit.
We are delighted to confirm the return of the following stalls and activities:
  • Homemade Treats - Jams, chutneys, cordials, cakes, pies, biscuits
  • Local Honey - Fresh from Alison's apiary in Martin Way and Dave’s apiary in Tooting
  • Apple Press - Fancy the chance to press your own fresh apple juice? All you'll need is a little bit of elbow grease!
  • Apple Pie Making - an all-ages-friendly activity (popular with the little ones) that will see you take home your very own apple pie.
  • Children's Activities - Our amazingly creative Karoline will be running children's activities for all ages. Last year we introduced a storytelling workshop for children aged 2 - 5, run by Tinka the puppeteer. We are very pleased that Tinka will be joining Karoline again this year.
  • Musical performances - we will be joined by The Colliers Wood International Ukulele Orchestra.
  • Sustainable Merton Stall
  • Friends of the Earth Stall
  • Local Girlguiding stall - including the Abundance Wimbledon Raffle and the Longest Peel competition
  • Plant stall - with lots of plants donated by local gardeners
